I’ve never been a girl to have a million wreaths. I like to have something on my door. But it usually ends up being the same thing for…oh…10 months out of the year.
{the other 2 months have split time between a fall wreath & my Pinecone Cluster}
But when I popped into Dollar Tree last week and saw some super cute sparkly hearts, I decided to grab a few packages. Because, you can never have enough sparkly hearts, amIright?
I also needed a wreath form. Enter Aldi.
I didn’t buy a case full of tortilla chips, by the way. I just used the box to transport my groceries. You may now add me back to the “semi-healthy” list.
I cut the box down to about 13″ across.
I decided to make an opening in my wreath 3″ from the edge of the box. So I measured 3″ at each corner:
and then cut it out. As you can tell, I wasn’t going for perfection.
I also snagged this ribbon from Dollar Tree. Cute, right?
I just attached it to the center of my wreath form with a little hot glue and tied a knot at the top.
Ahhhh…beautiful, sparkly hearts! They make me happy.
I started attaching the hearts to the perimeter of my wreath form with a dab of hot glue. I went pink-red-pink-red for a little while, then switched it up on the inside so it wouldn’t look too planned.
Then I started filling in the inside. About this time, I began thinking, “this is going to be a total fail. it looks ugly. maybe I can at least get some mileage out of it by blogging about my wreath fail.” That just shows you…never give up even if you think you might fail.
I filled in the little gaps with little hearts. Like so…
And then – whaddya know…I finished it and hung it up by the knot & a simple 3M hook.
And there you have it, folks. Stage 1 of my wreath:
But, I wanted my wreath to be a bit more personal. So I grabbed another piece of cardboard,
painted it with a free little test pot of paint from a promotion Glidden did a few years ago: {incidentally, I used this same exact paint to make a necklace onesie for Anna Grace when she was a baby!}
put hot glue on 3 of the sides {keeping the top part unglued}:
and was left with this:
I flipped it around and inserted a pic in the back:
and here’s what’s hanging on my door as I speak. er…type.
You might remember that picture from the ones Jonathan & I had taken a few months ago? {here’s the rest of the love-y pics in case you missed them!}
I still can’t decide which one I like better – the wreath with or without the pic. I love the one with the pic because it’s personal and so us.
But I like the one without because it’s just more classic. Either way, though, it only cost me $4.38 to make – and I still have most of the ribbon left over! I call that success.
Which one do you like better?
